The Clout

The Clout is issued in a single denomination of one (1). The plural of clout is clout. No fractional clout is issued, and a clout may not be broken.

Series 2026 (Provisional) is issued by overprinting host notes: 20,000 bolĂvar notes of the Banco Central de Venezuela, dated 13 December 2017. The authorized issue is 500 clout (Ordinance 2026-02).

Series 2026 Provisional Clout. Left: the reverse, with a round black seal reading Treasury of the Levee, The Next Ward, around a six-pointed star bearing 1 Clout. Right: the face, with a ruled box reading 1 Clout, Provisional, The Next Ward, and a bilingual band reading Not real money, not legal tender.

Know Your Clout

  1. Face overprint. A ruled box in the watermark window reading 1 / Clout / Provisional / The Next Ward, struck in black ink.
  2. Disclaimer band. Below the box, in English and Spanish: Not real money · Not legal tender / No es dinero real · Sin curso legal.
  3. Treasury seal. On the reverse, a round seal 38 mm across reading Treasury of the Levee / The Next Ward, around a six-pointed star bearing 1 Clout.
  4. Matching serials. The host note's serial number is printed twice on the face, and the two must match. The serial may be checked against the Register.
  5. Host note features. The original printing and security features of the host note stay intact. The Treasury does not alter them.
The Treasury seal: Treasury of the Levee, The Next Ward, with a six-pointed star bearing 1 Clout.
Treasury seal, reverse.

A host note lacking either overprint is a Venezuelan banknote, not a clout.

Exchange

Clout cannot be purchased, sold or exchanged for United States dollars or the currency of any other state. The Treasury does not quote an exchange rate. Clout circulates within the Ward at the discretion of those present.

The Levee Mint

Overprinting is carried out by the Levee Mint. The Mint's press, the Levee Mint Mk I, strikes the face and reverse of a note in a single pull of the lever. Its design has been approved, and fabrication is pending (PN 2026-005).
